Art of Life SCS, LSC121 Simple Sympathy

This Splitcoast Challenge was to use a neglected stamp set we hadn't used in a long time. This set I got from my upline after it retired. I just really like it, but I haven't used it much, and not in a long time! I saw Mona Lisa's simple beautiful card with this set, and wanted to make something similar. We had a young man at church pass away this week and so I made this Sympathy card for their family. I tried and tired to put a ribbon on it, but it really didn't want ribbon, it wanted to stay simple. I used shimmer white paper, and colored the blossom with purple shimmer gel pen, so the card has a nice glowy shine to it.

The second card was a fun extra. I was waiting up for my son to get home, and I just kept going, and this was the result. I love this Daisy D Paisley Paper and the Holtz Distressing Ink, this was tea color. I love the cranberry crisp paper with the mellow moss, and the stitched ribbon. I will miss this color so much!

Square Cards is the Ways To Use It Challenge Today!

I enjoyed making this card! It came together very differently than the idea in my head, but I like it much better anyway. I started with this peice of rickrack Daisy D cardstock, it's nice and thick and distressed so nicely. Then I did a panel for the side and used my corner rounder punch with the guide removed to do the scallops. That took two tries to get it straight! Then I made the doodle this flower and cut it out, and put them together with the New SU Ice Crystal Brad. Then I added the punches and distressed them with the HP Hardware brads. I Then stamped the flourish and mounted the flower on dimensionals. It needed more, so I stamped and cut out the little butterfly. Then I added the ribbon on the clip. I still wanted a sentiment, so I cut out some ovals in pink and yellow, but they just didn't "work". So I decided to risk the entire card, and stamped Blessings right on the top. You gotta live dangerously sometimes, lol! I love how it matches the flourish and think it drew everything together. I'm on a roll, that is four challenges this week! yay!

SCS Sketch Challenge 129

I had fun making this card, of course it looks much better IRL! (in real life) It was a fun layout that I will use again. It was made with Close to my Heart Paper called On Your Toes that I got at a sale at UVSC so I paid next to nothing, always very fun! I cut the scalloped circles with my Cricut and sponged them using SU Perfect Plum. Stamped the sentiment. Then I cut the DP panel and scalloped it with my corner rounder with the guard taken off, the fastened to the card base. Glued down the circles next. I then stamped SU's Doodle This flower in Elegant Eggplant colored the flowers with my colored pencils and cut them out, the adhered them to the circle. Added the ribbon last, taking a nip out of the fold with a small square punch. Of course then I had to rearrange the flowers and add the crystal stickles. All Done! I'm happy I was able to do two challenges this week!

Happy Birthday to Andy!

This card was fun to make for the SCS Color Challenge. We were to use real red, creamy caramel, and barley banana. (I added a bit of Marigold Morning ink and chocolate chip inside...ooh no!) I needed a card and started out with Monkey Business, because I thought it would fit into the colors and Andy is Monkey Man after all. (he's been called that for years) That's what happens when you are the youngest kid in the family! Anyway, the monkey ended up on the inside of the card instead of the outside, which most likely makes for a more mature birthday card anyway! Happy 19th Birthday Andy! Love You :)

Easy Fast Card For SCS Technique Challenge

This card was quick and fun. I used Baroque Motifs, the new Ice Crystals Brad and the new Designer Papers, with the new River Rock Cards Stock. All my new stuff was still on the table, so that's what I used! At first I really didn't think I would like this color, but now it's growing on me.

Back Deck with Upside Down Tomatoes

This is my deck, with my upside down tomatoes in the orange buckets and lots of hanging flower baskets. I am standing right by the stairs to take a picture of it. When I first decided to do the tomatoes my dd dubbed the deck a construction zone because of the orange color! I thought it was a better color than white, I wanted a nice green but couldn't find it. Oh well, they are growing nicely and it will be fun to see if I get tomatoes. This picture you really have to look to see a tomato growing upside down out of the bottom of those orange buckets, but they are there! In the tops of the buckets are herbs and nastursiums, so we can actually pick salad out of them! Mostly basil and parsley and some oregano, but also the flowers. I'm hoping by August they will cascade down and cover up some of the bucket! I have three of the tomatoes, and four hanging flowers. My bird feeder corner is the corner you can't see from this photo, but I take down the flowers in the winter and put up bird feeders. I leave one on the rail in the summer and hang a thistle feeder for the gold finches. I have many hummingbirds that come to the flowers, it's really fun to sit out there and have them hum beside you!

Puppy, Puppy Love

My daughter and her husband went on a trip to New York for two weeks. I get to be puppy grandma and watch these little bundles of energy! They are cute, tiny, sassy and funny. Mia is the black little girl, and Max is the blonde little boy. They are about three months old now and are starting to get the hang of things. They follow me around wherever I walk, and want to play, play, play!

Monday's Try a New Technique

Monday's new Technique was to make faux tile. There was several different ways to choose from to make the tiles. I chose to use my square punch, to layer the tiles onto black for a sharp look. I dry embossed the "tiles" with my cuttlebug and a cute little tiny embossing folder using bravo burgundy. It was pretty quick, but then I rubbed them with Encore gold ink and let them dry. After that I coated them with Crystal Effects. This turned them very dark, and caused the gold ink to change color and puddle, but I let them dry overnight, just in case by morning there was some great transformation. No such luck, I decided I couldn't use them that way. I liked them much better plain, so I made another set this morning. Then I did the Carte Postale Medallion for the center and adhered everything all together. Added the bow, fastened it down with some mini pop dots so it won't slide off, and tada! There it is.

Tuesday's Color Challenge

Today on Splitcoast the challenge was to use Chocolate Chip, Certainly Celery, Cameo Coral, and optional Tempting Turquoise. I passed on the turquoise, but here is the card with the other three! I just cut the rubber for this new set today, Baroque Motifs and it is really lovely. I really like the swirls the best, so pretty! I quite like the dotted brown ribbon on this, I wanted to put Celery gross grain on it, but once I spied the dotted chiffon I had to use it. Unfortunately you can't see the piercings on the celery back panel well in the picture, but they are there, both on the top and side. The flower and the oval are on dimensionals. The flower has the new Ice brads from SCS, they are different, have a thicker center, but after I pushed on it a bit it did go down, even though it wanted to stick up!

Wedding Cake for Mindy

Wedding Cakes

My daughter frosted these wedding cakes for her friend Mindy's wedding. The wedding reception was last night, and here are the pictures. I had the pleasure of loaning my dd my kitchen, and dining room, to make the cakes in, and I made all the frosting for the cakes. That is a ton of pure white buttercream! I am still figuring out this blog, so hopefully I will figure out how to post the pictures and you will see what she did! It was quite the project, lots of stress and mess. I had all the stress and my dd made all the mess. But her sweet dh cleaned and cleaned and helped and helped, so it all turned out well. It took the entire family carrying the cakes to the reception but we made it with all the cakes intact. It was at a home in Cedar Hills, overlooking the temple. The cake had a crystal temple on it, and you could look out over the cake and see the temple in the background, cool. So look for the temple in the picture.
My dd really enjoyed making the grooms cake, and it looked so nice on the dessert table. I thought it turned out really fun! Enjoy.
